Headwaters State Forest

A natural wonder and playground.

Headwaters State Forest

The Headwaters State Forest located in Transylvania county, North Carolina will be roughly 8,000 acres. A vast majority of the property adjoins Caesars Head State Park and Jones Gap State Park located in South Carolina. The Headwaters State Forest will be a great addition to protected property along the visible dividing ridge region between North and South Carolina.  All of the proposed forest in North Carolina is located within Transylvania County and is easily accessible off East Fork Road.

According to an article published by Times-News Staff Writer Nathaniel Axtell there will be "25 waterfalls - including 100-foot-plus Hidden Falls - and supports 60 miles of high-quality streams, nine rare mountain bogs and habitat for several endangered or uncommon plants and animals." For more information about the state forest watch this video hosted by Peter Barr from the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy.
